INTRODUCTION

MEFTAL P SUSPENSION contains Mefenamic acid which belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It helps to lower body temperature (fever), reduces pain and inflammation both in infants and children. Mefenamic acid is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) which has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties. It works by reducing hormones that cause fever, inflammation and pain in the body.

The dose and frequency will be depending upon the type and severity of the infection, your child’s age, and body weight, so stick to the dose, time, and duration as prescribed by the doctor.  In some cases, minor and temporary side effects may be experienced after the intake of this medicine. These include nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, abdominal pain, skin rash.

Usually, these effects subside once your child’s body adapts to the medicine. However, in case of prolonged or bothersome events, it would be best to consult your doctor without any delay. Tell your doctor about your child’s complete medical history including any previous episode of allergy, heart-problem, liver impairment, kidney malfunction or any other health conditions. This information is critical for dose alterations and for planning your child’s overall treatment. Do not give more than the recommended dose, for rapid relief as it may give unwanted side effects.

SIDE EFFECTS OF MEFTAL P SUSPENSION

This medicine does not give serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine. Consult your child’s doctor if these side effects persist or bother your child.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Headache:

Apply a wet or cold cloth to your child’s forehead and give plenty of water.

Nausea or vomiting:

Give regular meals and avoid giving spicy foods or sweets.

Diarrhoea:

Give plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. If persists consult your doctor for advice.

Stomach pain:

Place a warm water bottle on your child’s abdomen and give plenty of clear fluids and water.
