INTRODUCTION


MONOCEF O 100MG DRY contain cefpodoxime which belongs to a group of medicine called cephalosporin antibiotics. It is used to treat bacterial infections such as tonsillitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis, and acute otitis media, pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue.


The common side effects are nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, bloating, skin rash, skin itch, hives. MONOCEF O 100MG DRY kills the bacteria by preventing them from forming the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is needed for them to survive. This medicine is strictly not recommended for use in children under 4 weeks old. Check the label for directions before use. Shake well before use.


Before taking this medicine inform your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, liver problems. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should seek medical advice before taking this medication.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS


Nausea and vomiting:


Try taking this medicine with, or just after, a meal or snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat rich or spicy food.


Abdominal pain:


Rest and relax as much as possible. You can either eat and drink slowly or in smaller, more frequent portions. On your stomach, place a heat pad or a covered hot water bottle. Speak to your doctor if the discomfort persists.


Diarrhoea:


To avoid dehydration, drink plenty of fluids like water or squash. Do not take any additional medications without first consulting a physician.


Bloating or wind:


Eat smaller and frequent meals. Eat and drink slowly, and exercise regularly. If the symptoms get worse, contact your doctor straight away.

BREASTFEEDING


MONOCEF O 100MG DRY should be used with caution in breast feeding women. Consult your doctor before taking.



 








DRIVING AND USING MACHINES


Do not drive or operate any machine while taking this medicine as it may cause dizzy sensations.



 








ALCOHOL


During MONOCEF O 100MG DRY treatment, it is not advisable to consume alcohol.



 








KIDNEY


MONOCEF O 100MG DRY should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.



 








LIVER


MONOCEF O 100MG DRY should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.



 








ALLERGY


Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to cefpodoxime.



 








LUNGS


MONOCEF O 100MG DRY should be used with caution in patients suffering from active lung diseases (asthma). Consult your doctor for advice.



 








OTHERS


Tell your doctor if you have or had conditions such as,



  • Has ever had colitis

  • Is under 4 weeks old

  • Is between 4 weeks and 3 months old

  • Has phenylketonuria, a metabolic disorder (as this product contains a source of phenylalanine)

  • Cannot tolerate or digest some sugars (as this product contains sucrose)

  • Suffering from gastrointestinal disorders associated with vomiting and diarrhoea



 





 








INTERACTIONS


Talk to your doctor if you are taking,



  • Antacids (used to treat indigestion)

  • Ranitidine or cimetidine (used to treat ulcers)

  • Water tablets or injections (diuretics)

  • Aminoglycoside antibiotics (used to treat infections)

  • Probenecid (used with a medicine called cidofovir to stop kidney damage)

  • Coumarin anti-coagulant such as warfarin (used to thin the blood)

  • Oestrogens hormones
